Tribute from her Brother in Law Ian

I would like to pay tribute to Sue for the bravery and courageousness she showed as she fought a battle with cancer. Throughout years of chemothererapy and radiotherapy she showed tremendous spirit and a love of life that left me and many others who visited her in awe of the strength she showed. She was happy and shared a joke – she loved to see family and friends and even joked about her loss of hair. I remember Neil telling me one day that not long after the diagnosis Sue was singing in the shower at the top of her voice while he was in heap crying uncontrollably at the door of the bathroom. Now Neil agrees with me that Sue’s bravery and determination to live life to the full for as long as possible, he does not believe he has been as brave and as strong as she was. I think we all know that he has, he was with Sue every step of the way and provided support and care to a level that demonstrated his deep love for her. Towards the end Sue whispered to me “look after him” and I promised her I would teach him to cook – there was a nod of satisfaction and she drifted back to sleep. A couple of days before she died I watched Neil giving her words of comfort as he held her hand in his and stroked her face – that touched me deeply. We all take comfort in the fact she died peacefully without pain, at home with the ones she loved and loved her.
